The proposal calls for a five-story, mixed-use building, part of an estimated $12 million development that would bring 37 residential units along with roughly 30,000 square feet of space to the area.

Around 20% of the units would be set aside as affordable housing at 80% of the area median income, while the remaining apartments would be leased at market rates.

Pending city approval, construction could get underway as early as this summer.

"Detroit raised me - I'm a west side kid, and I'm passionate about bringing mixed-income housing to my city," Tee Grizzley said in a statement. "The 205 Watson project is about building safe, quality housing for everybody; that respects longtime residents and welcomes new neighbors - building opportunity without pushing people out."
